Synchronicity

Signs from the Universe

The word synchronicity was first used by the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung. Jung's examination into people's dreams led him to believe that particular types and characters appeared in dreams and that these characters were shared by people from all cultures. He called them Archetypes.

His discovery of archetypes led him to study different cultures, including those of ancient China. He discovered the book known as the I Ching which is probably the oldest of the book in the world. It describes an ancient system of cosmology and philosophy which is at the heart of Chinese cultural beliefs.

Jung found that the book gave a surprising number of correct answers and truths. In other words, it worked. It was this which led Jung to the idea of synchronicity to explain the correspondence between the random choice of page in the book and events in the real world.

Jung called this the "acausal connecting principle" that links mind and matter. He said this underlying connectedness shows itself through meaningful coincidences that can't be explained by cause and effect. Such synchronicities occur, he theorized, when a strong need arises in the subconscious of an person. He described three types that he had observed:

synchronicity the coinciding of a thought or feeling with an outside event

synchronicity a dream, vision or premonition of something that then happens in the future

synchronicity a dream or vision that coincides with an event occurring at a distance

No one has come up with a definition that has replaced his, although there has been debate on whether events linked to precognition and clairvoyance should be included as synchronicity.

Synchronicity - What Exactly is It?

David was trying to track down an out-of-print book called The Adventures of Marco Polo. He scoured two used book stores in Oxford, had no success, and caught a taxi to a third. The taxi driver was unusually chatty and during their conversation, David glanced at his license on the dashboard. His name? Marco Polo!

The uncanny coincidence. The unlikely conjunction of events. The startling serendipity. Who hasn’t had it happen in their life? You think of someone for the first time in years and run into them a few hours later. An unusual phrase you’d never heard before jumps out at you three times in the same day. On a back street in a foreign country, you bump into an old friend. A book falls off the shelf at the bookshop and it’s exactly what you need.

Synchronicities are usually regarded as signs and some people consciously use them to make decisions in life. In the novel The Celestine Prophecy, a best-seller which brought synchronicity to public awareness, James Redfield says that all coincidences are meaningful because they show the way to an unfolding of our personal destiny.

Some scientists see a theoretical basis for synchronicity in quantum physics, fractal geometry and chaos theory. They are finding that the isolation and separation of objects from each other is more apparent than real; at deeper levels, everything -- atoms, cells, molecules, plants, animals, people -- participates in a sensitive, flowing web of information. Physicists have shown, for example, that if two photons are separated, no matter by how far, a change in one creates a simultaneous change in the other.

The Universe is constantly sending you signs and vibrations and when you're aware of this and start asking for signs, they come right to you. It's just that you have to leave 'how' the sign comes to you to the Universe. When receiving a sign of encouragement or a sign to take action, you have to think about what a particular sign means to you. Discovering what the particular object or song means is part of the amazing process of seeing signs from the Universe. If you're asking for a sign, it's best to just ask for a sign of some sort instead of something specific because the Universe is always responding to your call in the way that it knows best for you.

The Universe keeps knocking but you have to answer the door! Once you 'get' what the sign is then the Universe doesn't have to continue with that particular vibration unless you want it to.

You may ask, "Why do I need signs? I just want to attract what I want." Well, you have to align with the vibration of what you want. That is how the Universe will send back to you in vibration. However, if your vibration has chaotic or past thoughts connected with the want, then the Universe is sending back to you what you are emitting out.

Ask for signs

Tell the Universe that you trust it with what you want and ask for a sign to let you know that it is still there. Even though you know the Universe is there, it's nice to have a sign. For example, you know that your spouse loves you but isn't it nice to hear the words sometimes? That is like wanting a sign from the Universe. There are two different kinds of signs. There are inspirational signs and signs to act upon and both are just as important.

Inspirational signs from the Universe say, "I am working on your want and I love you." Signs to act upon are when someone leaves a newspaper next to you on the train with something circled on it. You look at it and it is an answer or a possible path to what you want. The Universe is leaving you a sign to act upon.

So, wake up every day and look out for signs and you'll see them all through the day. It's up to you to interpret what it is that you are seeing and feeling. Signs from the Universe will help lead the way to the life that is what you want.
